Product Information

Are glass splashbacks expensive?

Our glass splashbacks are competitively priced, with most printed and coloured options costing under £200 delivered. The easy measurement and installation process makes them more cost-effective than many alternatives.

Can I order custom measurements?

Absolutely! We specialise in made-to-measure splashbacks. Simply select your product type (Clear, Coloured, or Printed) and enter your specific dimensions.

Are your products returnable?

Unfortunately, no. All products are made-to-order with custom specifications, making them unsuitable for resale. Even our stock-size glass is coated to order.

Installation & Safety

Can glass splashbacks be used behind gas hobs?

Yes. All our glass splashbacks are made from toughened glass, specifically manufactured for use behind all types of kitchen hobs, including gas.

Are glass splashbacks heat resistant?

Yes, they're designed specifically for kitchen use. We've never had a glass splashback break due to heat or other factors after proper installation.

What about acrylic splashbacks behind gas hobs?

No, acrylic will melt behind gas hobs and isn't recommended for electric hobs either. While induction hobs may be suitable, we always recommend glass given the minimal price difference.

Is there a minimum distance from the hob?

For gas hobs, maintain at least 75mm (3 inches) from flame edges to prevent backing damage. Avoid prolonged contact with hot pots. This issue is extremely rare (only 3 cases in 80,000+ orders).

Can I install over existing tiles?

Yes! Many customers choose this option to save time and avoid the mess of tile removal.

Customisation Options

What about cut-outs and notches?

We offer custom cut-outs and notches for:

  • Electrical sockets (cut using precision water jet)
  • Cooker hoods
  • Kitchen cupboards
  • Other unique requirements

Select your requirements using our quoting tool, then send us your template or drawing. Our team is available at 0808 2540007 or enquiries@diysplashbacks.co.uk for guidance.

What colours are available?

We can match virtually any colour to within 97% accuracy (industry standard). Choose from major UK paint ranges through our quoting tool, or contact us to match specific colours.

Pro tip: Order a £10 sample to test your chosen colour in your kitchen lighting.

Important: Order all splashbacks for the same area together, as colours are mixed individually and exact matches cannot be guaranteed for separate orders.

Technical Details

Can toughened glass be cut?

No. Toughened glass cannot be cut after the toughening process. All customisation must be completed beforehand. Non-toughened glass can be cut but isn't suitable for kitchen use due to heat vulnerability.

What's the difference between gloss and brushed glass?

  • Gloss: Made from low-iron glass for true colours with a shiny finish
  • Brushed: Acid-etched matte surface; may slightly distort colours due to iron content (darker colours less affected)

What is Easy Clean coating?

This transparent coating fills microscopic pores in glass, creating a smoother surface that resists grease and dirt, making cleaning easier.

How are glass splashbacks manufactured?

  1. Glass is cut oversized and edges polished with beveled finish
  2. Thoroughly washed to remove contaminants
  3. Toughened in a furnace at near-melting point, then rapidly cooled
  4. This process creates surface compression, making glass 6x stronger
  5. Finally coated with colour, silvering, or digital printing
